MICRO-PAK DRI CLAY™
Micro-Pak Dri Clay™ is a 100% natural, safe and effective bentonite clay desiccant that protects products from moisture damage. Moisture can quickly destroy many kinds of products during storage and shipping by causing mold, mildew, rust, corrosion, as well as device malfunction in electronic products. Micro-Pak Dri Clay™ adsorbs moisture from the air inside packages to prevent moisture damage, and is critical to maintaining product quality and shelf life.
Micro-Pak Dri Clay™ is safer, better performing, more economical and more environmentally friendly than other types of desiccants including silica gel and calcium chloride as outlined in detail below.
Micro-Pak Dri Clay™ can be used on a wide range of products including but not limited to textiles, leather goods, electronics, metal components, foods, pharmaceuticals, and medical devices. The five sizes of Micro-Pak Dri Clay™ enable you to select the most suitable sized desiccant for your particular item and packing method.
Micro-Pak Dri Clay™ can be used together with Micro-Pak® Stickers and Micro-Pak® PE Sheets. In doing so your products will have the combined benefit of both anti-mold and anti-moisture protection.
Manufactured by a leading Swiss chemicals company, Micro-Pak Dri Clay™ is sourced from sustainable mines using only the top grades of bentonite clay that meet demanding adsorption requirements.
Micro-Pak Dri Clay™ Advantages
• Environmentally Friendly & Regulatory Compliant – 100% natural, safe, non-toxic and sustainable.
• No risk of leakage – Dri Clay remains dry with no change in size, shape or texture even at full water vapor capacity.
• No risk of corrosion (Safe to use with metal parts) – This is unlike calcium chloride desiccants which are highly corrosive and always present a risk of leakage and corrosion
• Superior Performance – Bentonite clay offers higher absorption capacity in the most common and relevant packaging conditions when compared to silica gel and calcium chloride desiccants
• Economical. Effective. Easy to Use
Micro-Pak Dri Clay™ has the following advantages over silica gel desiccants:
a. Environmentally Friendly – Clay is naturally occurring with a low energy, low water and zero chemical production process. Conversely, silica gel is a synthetic material and its production is highly energy intensive, requiring chemical feedstocks and significant fresh water while also producing process pollutions, effluents and discharges.
b. Superior Performance and Easier to Handle – Micro-Pak Dri Clay™ offers higher adsorption capacity in the most common and relevant packaging conditions. At high humidity Micro-Pak Dri Clay™ adsorbs moisture more slowly than silica gel making it easier for factory workers to handle and reducing the risk of the desiccant reaching saturation before it is even packed with the product
c. Regulatory Compliant – DMF (a substance banned in Europe) and cobalt chloride (a possible carcinogen) have been detected in silica gel. Micro-Pak Dri Clay™ is 100% natural, DMF Free and compliant with REACH and other international regulations.
Micro-Pak Dri Clay™ has the following advantages over calcium chloride desiccants:
a. No Leakage – Using calcium chloride inside the packaging is risky because when it absorbs moisture it turns into a liquid solution which can leak and damage the products. Micro-Pak Dri Clay™ remains dry at all times even at full water vapor capacity and therefore will not leak.
b. No Corrosion (Safe to use with metal parts) – Calcium chloride is highly corrosive and can cause corrosion to metal parts on contact. Micro-Pak Dri Clay™ is not corrosive and is safe to use with metal parts.
c. Calcium Chloride is Not Designed to be Used Inside Packaging – Calcium chloride absorbs moisture fastest in very high extreme humidity conditions like those found inside shipping containers, and is an ideal ingredient for container desiccants. Inside packages however the humidity levels are lower and calcium chloride absorbs moisture much more slowly at these low humidity levels. Micro-Pak Dri Clay™ adsorbs moisture consistently well through a wide range of humidity levels and inside packages it will remove moisture significantly faster than calcium chloride.
