Micro-Pak Dri Clay® Kraft is a plastic-free desiccant made from natural bentonite clay that is packaged in biodegradable FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified Kraft paper. Micro-Pak Dri Clay® outperforms silica gel, calcium chloride and other synthetic desiccants, and is also safer (no leakage or corrosion, free of harmful chemicals). Dri Clay® has the Plastic Free Certification from Control Union which confirms that it is a 100% plastic-free product.

Use Micro-Pak Dri Clay® to remove moisture from inside packages and thereby protect products from mold and all forms of moisture damage.

Moisture can quickly destroy many types of products during storage and shipping by causing mold, mildew, rust, corrosion, and device malfunction in electronic products. When goods are shipped they are susceptible to damage from excessive moisture caused by widely fluctuating temperature and humidity levels. Micro-Pak Dri Clay® adsorbs moisture from the air inside packages to prevent moisture damage, and is critical to maintaining product quality and shelf life. Micro-Pak Dri Clay® can be used on a wide range of products including but not limited to textiles, leather goods, electronics, metal components, foods, pharmaceuticals, and medical devices.

Micro-Pak Dri Clay® contains 100% bentonite clay, a naturally occurring and highly adsorbent mineral. Our manufacturing partner specializes in functional minerals, and Micro-Pak Dri Clay® meets rigorous specifications including military specification Mil-D-3464E (Mil Spec).

No. Micro-Pak® Stickers and Sheets are anti-microbial and function specifically to eliminate mold growth. If you primarily have problems with mold we recommend using Micro-Pak® Stickers and Sheets. Mold growth occurs not only because of excessive moisture so it is best to use an anti-microbial to protect your products from mold.

Micro-Pak Dri Clay® is a moisture control product that is designed specifically to eliminate problems caused by moisture. If your problems are moisture related we recommend using Micro-Pak Dri Clay®, either on its own or together with Micro-Pak® Stickers and Sheets.

Yes. In doing so your products will have the combined benefit of both anti-microbial and anti-moisture protection.

Micro-Pak Dri Clay® offers the following advantages over silica gel desiccants:

a. Sustainability – Clay is a naturally occurring mineral which requires a low energy, zero water and zero chemical production process. Micro-Pak Dri Clay® is plastic-free and biodegradable and can be safely disposed in landfill. Conversely, silica gel is a synthetic material made from chemicals and its production is highly energy intensive, requiring chemical feed-stocks and significant fresh water while also producing process pollutions, effluents and discharges. Silica gel will remain in landfill indefinitely and may release harmful chemicals and toxins that contaminate the soil and water systems.

b. Superior Performance – Micro-Pak Dri Clay® offers higher adsorption capacity in the most common and relevant packaging conditions, and will reduce humidity inside sealed packages faster and to lower levels than silica gel. There is also significant variation in the quality of silica gels and many have no capacity to absorb any moisture. At high humidity Micro-Pak Dri Clay® adsorbs moisture more slowly than silica gel making it easier for factory workers to handle and reducing the risk of the desiccant reaching saturation before it is even packed with the product

c. Regulatory Compliance (REACH Exempt) - Micro-Pak Dri Clay® is DMF-free and exempt from REACH registration because it is considered as occurring in nature and without any chemical modifications. We have nevertheless tested it for REACH’s Substances of Very High Concern (SVHCs) and it passes all tests. Chemicals including DMF (a substance banned in Europe) and cobalt chloride (a possible carcinogen) have been detected in silica gel which is subject to REACH registration. Silica gel and calcium chloride desiccants require REACH registration and volume tracking.

Micro-Pak Dri Clay® offers the following advantages over calcium chloride desiccants:

a. No Leakage - Using calcium chloride inside the packaging is risky because when it absorbs moisture it turns into a liquid solution which can leak and damage the products. Micro-Pak Dri Clay® remains dry at all times even at full water vapor capacity and therefore will not leak.

b. No Corrosion (safe to use with metal parts) – Calcium chloride is highly corrosive and can cause corrosion to metal parts on contact. Micro-Pak Dri Clay® is not corrosive and is safe to use with metal parts.

c. Calcium Chloride is Not Designed to be Used Inside Packaging - Calcium chloride uses a chemical absorption process which requires a sustained moisture supply to be effective. In a sealed package the amount of moisture in the air is limited and the absorption rate of calcium chloride is very slow, in fact without a sustained moisture supply calcium chloride will release back the absorbed moisture.

Calcium chloride is actually designed to be used in container desiccants, as there exists high levels of sustained moisture in the shipping container for it to perform optimally.

Micro-Pak Dri Clay® adsorbs moisture consistently well through a wide range of humidity levels and inside packages it will remove moisture significantly faster and to lower levels than calcium chloride.

In the adsorption process the liquid particles bind to the surface of the clay and are removed without causing any change to the size, shape or texture of the clay. This process is different from absorption where the liquid particles would diffuse into the desiccant to form a liquid solution.

Micro-Pak Dri Clay® comes in five bag sizes – 2 grams, 6 grams, 17 grams, 33 grams and 66 grams.
The amount of Micro-Pak Dri Clay® to be used depends on the volume of the packaging and the sensitivity of the product to moisture damage. Please contact Micro-Pak for further information.

Considering the complexity of international shipping routes, it is always rainy season somewhere. Our usage recommendations are therefore standard throughout the year.

Micro-Pak Dri Clay® can absorb up to 30 – 40% of its own weight in moisture and will continue absorbing until it has reached full water vapor capacity.

No. The unique adsorption properties of bentonite clay mean that Micro-Pak Dri Clay® remains dry at all times with no change in size, shape or texture even at full water vapor capacity, and does not pose any risk of leakage or corrosion.

Micro-Pak Dri Clay® can be kept for up to one year from the date of production if stored un-opened in its original packaging. Micro-Pak Dri Clay® should be stored in dry conditions, out of sunlight and away from heat sources. Only remove the necessary quantity of desiccant at the time of final packaging. Store any unused desiccants inside the original polybag packaging, seal it tight (we recommend using a hot seal to re-seal the polybag), and use up the desiccants as soon as possible.

Micro-Pak Dri Clay® is designed for one-time use.

Micro-Pak Dri Clay® contains 100% bentonite clay, a naturally occurring mineral that is safe and non-toxic. Dri Clay® is packaged in plastic-free, biodegradable FSC-certified Kraft paper and can be safely disposed with regular waste.
Micro-Pak Dri Clay® is exempt from REACH registration, DMF free, and compliant with RoHS and a wide range of international regulations. Dri Clay® meets US Food and Drug Administration regulations for contact with food and drugs. Our production facility is Brand Reputation Compliance Global Standard (BRCGS)-certified for food and drug contact per the BRCGS Packaging Material Global Standard.
