Micro-Pak Dri Clay® Kraft X2

A special version of Micro-Pak Dri Clay® Kraft desiccants designed for the apparel industry and metal detectors.

Micro-Pak Dri Clay® Kraft is a certified plastic-free desiccant made from natural bentonite clay that is packaged in biodegradable FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) Kraft paper. Dri Clay® outperforms silica gel and calcium chloride desiccant and is also safer as it is free of harmful chemicals, non-corrosive and does not leak.

As it is a 100% natural ingredient, bentonite clay may contain trace amounts of minerals with magnetic properties that can, on very rare occasions, trigger metal detectors which are used by the apparel industry to check for any metal parts accidentally left behind in the garments.

Dri Clay® Kraft X2 is a special version of Dri Clay® designed for the apparel industry that will not interfere with metal detectors. We use a proprietary filtration method to remove any minerals with magnetic properties from the clay. The ingredient and efficacy is otherwise unchanged. Dri Clay® Kraft X2 has a 100% pass rate with metal detectors.

Product Details

  • The first and only bentonite clay desiccant designed for the apparel industry and metal detectors.
  • Available in 2 sizes (grams): 2g and 6g for individual packing.
  • If you make apparel and use metal detectors at 1.0mm setting, we recommend using Dri Clay® Kraft X2 for individual packed items.
  • For bulk packing the desiccant is typically added after the metal detection stage so you can use regular Dri Clay® Kraft.

Choose Micro-Pak Dri Clay® instead of silica gel desiccants

A more sustainable desiccant: Manufacturing with naturally-occurring, 100% natural bentonite clay requires no water or chemicals, and little energy. This production process is far more sustainable than the energy-intensive production of synthetic silica gel, which requires chemical feedstocks and significant fresh water, while also producing pollutants, effluents, and discharges. Most silica gel is packaged in plastic whereas Micro-Pak Dri Clay® is the first and only certified plastic-free desiccant.

Superior performance and handling: Micro-Pak Dri Clay® outperforms silica gel, reducing humidity faster and to lower levels in most packaging conditions. It is also easier to handle so you run less risk of the desiccant reaching saturation in your factory before it’s packed with your products. Furthermore, there is significant variation in the quality of silica gels and many commonly found silica gels have no capacity to absorb moisture.

Better regulatory compliance: Micro-Pak Dri Clay® is 100% natural, DMF Free, exempt from REACH registration, and compliant with other international regulations. Silica gel requires REACH registration and is far riskier, with DMF (a substance banned in Europe) and cobalt chloride (a possible carcinogen) having been detected in it.

Choose Micro-Pak Dri Clay® instead of calcium chloride desiccants

A more sustainable desiccant: Calcium chloride desiccants turn into a corrosive liquid gel when they absorb moisture and to prevent leakage they are packaged in two layers of plastic, comprising an inner plastic pouch with an outer non-woven sleeve. Micro-Pak Dri Clay® is the first and only certified plastic-free desiccant, and the Kraft paper packaging is also biodegradable. When disposed in landfill, the clay is returned to the earth in its original form while the Kraft paper will biodegrade.

Leakage-free and non-corrosive: Micro-Pak Dri Clay® remains dry at all times, even at full water vapor capacity, so you never have to worry about leakage. But when calcium chloride absorbs moisture, it becomes liquid which poses high risk for leaking and damaging products. Furthermore, calcium chloride is highly corrosive especially to metal parts, whereas Micro-Pak Dri Clay® carried zero corrosion ris. Overall, Micro-Pak Dri Clay® is a much safer desiccant option.

Smart for packaging: Because Micro-Pak Dri Clay® adsorbs at a consistent rate, through a wide range of humidity levels, it lowers humidity inside packaging faster and to lower levels than calcium chloride—reducing the risk of mold, mildew, and other moisture-related problems. Calcium chloride only absorbs moisture very quickly in environments with sustained levels of high humidity, making it an effective ingredient for shipping container desiccants—but a poor choice for packaging.
