Micro-Pak Dri Clay® Kraft is the most sustainable desiccant available on the market. It is made from all-natural bentonite clay that is packaged in plastic-free, biodegradable (ASTM D5511 and ISO 15985), Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)-certified Kraft paper.

The rigorous certification process evaluates every component used in the manufacturing of Dri Clay including the ingredient, primary packaging, ink and adhesive, and confirms that it is a 100% plastic-free product. Dri Clay® is the first and only certified plastic free desiccant.
How Much Plastic is in a Desiccant?
Other commonly used desiccants like silica gel and calcium chloride are packaged in plastic. Calcium chloride desiccants turn into a corrosive liquid gel when they absorb moisture and to prevent leakage they are packaged in two layers of plastic.
While the amount of plastic in a single desiccant might be small, the aggregate impact of using many desiccants adds up very quickly. Here is the amount of plastic packaging used in 100 million 5-gram desiccants:

Sustainability Beyond Plastic
We have conducted a third-party peer-reviewed Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) comparing Dri Clay® to silica gel and calcium chloride desiccants. The results show that the cradle-to-grave impact of Dri Clay® is significantly lower than the other two commonly used desiccants. Calcium chloride has the highest (worst) environmental impact followed by silica gel. Both are manufactured synthetically and are packaged in plastic.
